Prep time                                               Cook time                                               Total time
5 mins.                                                     15 mins.                                                  20 mins.

Ingredients

4 salmon fillets (approx. 4 ounces each)
1 tablespoon olive oil
1/4 cup soy sauce
2 tablespoons honey
1 clove of garlic (finely minced)
5-6 Lime or lemon wedges/slices
 salt and pepper to taste
4-5 Asparagus (optional)
1 table spoon sesame seed (optional)

Steps

1. In a big pan, heat the olive oil to a medium or medium-low temperature. Season both sides of the fillets well with salt and pepper.

2. Put the fillets in the pan flesh side down. Cook until deep golden brown, about 5 to 6 minutes. Never use a high heat to cook. To cook, use a medium or medium-low heat.

3. The fish should be just cooked through and flake easily with a fork, so flip the fillets over and cook on the other side for another 4-5 minutes.

4. Mix the soy sauce, honey, and garlic in a small bowl.

5. Serve the salmon with the soy sauce mixture drizzled over it and sprinkle some sesame seeds on the top of the salmon. Put the blanched asparagus and lime/lemon slices over the plate, too.

Notes :

  • Salmon: You may use salmon filets with or without skin. Use fresh wild-caught salmon if you can, however fresh or frozen will do. First, cook salmon fillets with skin on side for a few minutes until the skin crisps up. With a spatula, turn the salmon over and cook the other side for an additional 3 to 4 minutes. The salmon's skin offers an additional layer of defense and keeps it from sticking to the pan and peeling off.
  • Honey: Maple or brown sugar can be used in place of this ingredient.
  • Garlic: wherever feasible, use fresh garlic. Garlic powder won't provide the same tastes.
  • Soy Sauce: Low sodium soy sauce or coconut aminos can be used for soy sauce.
