Leche Frita: (Spanish Fried Milk)

Leche Frita, which translates to "deep-fried milk," is a dessert originally from Spain that is simple to prepare and tastes great.

The greatest thing is that you really can prepare it in any size and quantity you like, making it ideal for both feeding a large group and keeping as a snack in your refrigerator for occasional use.


Because they believe that making handmade sweets will be difficult or time-consuming for little reward, many folks are afraid to try. Fortunately, this fallacy is dispelled by the Leche Frita recipe.

So are you ready to fly to Spain? Remember, you don't need any passport for now. Buckle up!

Ingredients

4 cups Milk (divided)
1 Cinnamon stick
Lemon peel from 1 small lemon
1/2 cup Sugar
2/3 cup Cornstarch
Pinch of salt
1 teaspoon Vanilla extract

For coating and frying:

2 Eggs
1/2 cup Flour
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon powder
1/2 cup sugar
Oil (for frying)

Steps

1. In a pot, combine 3 cups milk, sugar, a cinnamon stick, a lemon peel and a sprinkle of salt. Simmer the mixture for 5 minutes. (You can add spices and orange peel to the custard to give it extra flavor.)

2. In the meantime, combine cornstarch and the final cup of milk in a bowl. Until  it becomes smooth, whisk thoroughly.

3. From the heated milk, remove the lemon and cinnamon sticks. Stirring continuously, add the cornstarch mixture to the warm milk and cook over low to medium heat until thickened. 

4. Mix with vanilla essence after removing from heat.

5. Put the mixture in a pan that has been parchment paper-lined. Place in the refrigerator after let it to cool to room temperature, for at least 4 hours, covered with plastic wrap.

6. After chilled, cut the dessert into squares.

7. Prepare the coating by beating two eggs in one bowl, adding flour in another, and combining sugar and cinnamon in a third plate or basin.

8. Milk squares should be floured and then dipped in beaten eggs. Fry till golden brown for 1 to 2 minutes on each side in heated oil.

9. Drain on a paper towel before coating with the sugar-cinnamon mixture. Serve hot! Recommend to serve with some ice cream. Enjoy!
